This two hour course introduces participants to their rights and responsibilities as employees in the paid workforce. By the end of this course participants should be able to:

• Identify their rights under the law
• Describe their rights they have in an employment agreement
• List their responsibilities to their employer
• Discuss the meaning of the term ‘fair and reasonable’

This two hour course introduces participants to the concept of collective bargaining. By the end of the course, participants should be able to:

• Compare and contrast collective and individual bargaining
• Identify the advantages and disadvantages of negotiating collectively and individually
• Describe the process for negotiating collectively as required by the ERA

This two hour workshop aims to introduce participants to the roles and functions of a union. By the end of the course, participants should be able to:

• Identify some of the reasons that bring workers together to form a union
• Compare and contrast unions and other interest groups
• List historical events that have had an impact on current working conditions

This two hour course introduces the role and function of a union delegate. By the end of the course, participants should be able to:

• Describe the role of the delegate in the workplace and the union
• Identify the ideal personal qualities needed to be a delegate
• Identify the skills and knowledge needed by an effective delegate

This two hour course introduces participants to the income support and benefits available through Work & Income, Inland Revenue, and other benefits available to low income workers. By the end of the course, participants should be able to:

• Identify the types of income support and other benefits available through Work & Income and Inland Revenue
• List the benefits available to low income workers
• Access and advise others on how to access these benefits
• Describe the concept of the social wage

The aim of this course is to increase participants' knowledge and confidence in relation to their roles as union delegates within their workplace and the employment relations process. The course also aims to provide participants with the appropriate techniques, information and skills to perform these roles and empower other union members.
