This one day seminar is primarily targeted to union organisers and experienced workplace delegates in various industry sectors around New Zealand.
The course will provide opportunities for participants to:
- Recognise the main economic drivers and issues of their particular industry or sector.
- Demonstrate an appreciation of the role that various government bodies, both national and local, have in supporting economic development.
- Discuss with other members an understanding of the main economic drivers and issues of their particular industry or sector.
- Describe the relationship between positive employment relations and a joint union-employer strategy for industry development.
- Apply the analysis of an industry strategy to their own industry or sector which will involve sharing goals between both unions and employers.
- Formulate an action plan or scenario around the industry strategy for their workplace.
- Discuss communication within the union and between unions on such a strategy.

The course is to be run throughout New Zealand by SFWU staff with training for trainers qualifications. |

This is another generic course which starts the process of familiarising the union delegate with their role in the workplace. Topics covered include: rights and obligations under the ERA; communication in the workplace; union organisation on the job; skills to assist in representing members on the job; building good faith relationships. This course is to be run throughout New Zealand by SFWU staff with the relevant training qualifications.
