Southern Local Government Officers Union (SLGOU)

The aims of the half day course are

to increase participants’ knowledge and understanding of their union and its activities;

to increase participation in improving employment relations and promoting the objects of the ER Act in workplaces served by the union

The aim of this course is to provide delegates with an improved understanding of their role, including an awareness of all the relevant employment legislation, employment relationship problems and a better understanding of good faith in employment relationships.

This two-day seminar aims to increase the knowledge, skills and understanding of delegates and elected officials of the Union to enable them to improve employment relations within their workplace and promote the Employment Relations Act. After attending the course, participants should be able to explain:

• The role of unions, the structure of the Southern Local Government Officers Union
• How unions can become more effective in the workplace
• The process of collective bargaining and how to participate in collective negotiations.
